Boracay Sunset

October 11, 2012

This will always be one of my favorite shots because it’s a reminder of that perfect day spent in the small island of Boracay in the Philippines—I didn’t even have to get up from my lounge chair to take this photo. It’s like they all conspired and posed for me on cue!

Although getting to this paradise island requires a domestic flight, land trip and ferry ride, the beaches are surprisingly packed. Who can blame them (us!) though when you’ve got the perfect mix of powdery beaches, water sports, fantastic night life, fresh food and cheap beer. At night, the restaurants spill out their tables onto the beach complete with live music thus creating the perfect beach atmosphere. The beautiful people who walk by on occasion certainly enhance the experience too.

For a country spoilt with warm waters and white sands, Boracay certainly tops my list.

Wow, stunning shot ..But if you could recommend one other place similar to Boracay (nature and nightlife), where would it be? I’m going to the Philippines next month, but only for a week and heard it’ll be very rainy in Boracay :( Many thanks!

Hey. If you’re looking for both beach and nightlife then Cebu would probably be the place. It has a different more city vibe than Boracay though. If you’re ok to just sit around a beach and lounge around then I’d say Bohol or Palawan. Pretty quiet at night but the beaches are great. Buuuut honestly, even if it rains just go to Boracay. Haha!

I’ve been told by Filipino relatives that the Philippines is really beautiful, and one of the places they mentioned was Boracay. Your photo certainly confirms that. It really looks like a place I’d like to visit.

Ahhhhh take me back. I have been waiting for your Boracay.
This place is just so amazing. The fun loving gorgeous people, the natural beauty, the adventure to get there, the sunsets, the fruit smoothies, everything, I just loved every moment. For 8 wonderful nights I sat in this same spot sipping on a mango daiquiri (OK several) at Cafe Del Mar. Sunset on the beach was a ritual here, and why wouldn’t you with images like this a daily event. Pure paradise !! P.S Great shot !

        Hahahah hilarious !
NO ! No person, myself included, wants to see me after 15 shots !!! Yuck. I would spend the rest of the night with my head in a toilet :)
It is of no surprise to me to see Australia in the top ranks there, and surprises me even less to see the Brits a spot above us.
We went to the rooftop bar above one of the supermarkets – can’t think of the name off the top off my head, but the bar guy was hilarious., His name was Norm. So funny !

hi maria, aside from the stunning sunset, the contrast of movement stuck me as well. the inanimate linear forms of the PARAWS (sailboats) translated calm against the animated human forms which spoke of whimsy and fun. great shot … missing Boracay!

Absolutely love the beauty of the sky, complimented with the lovely sailboats and people playing football in the backtround. It’s almost surreal!
